Rail transportation power supplies have also been subjected to stringent requirements including transient,
energetic spikes, hold up specifications. Traditionaly majority of those power supplies have been developed
specifically with discrete components.
Since the mid 90’s with the introduction of modular systems, the use of standard DC/DC modules have
gained importance.
The standard input voltages in rail applications are 72 VDC or 110 VDC as in signaling it is 24 VDC
in a variation described in the widely used EN50155 standard. Fast and energetic spikes are of
primarily importance and need to be handled by efficient protections.
The power requirements generally range from 4W up to 200W per board.
To cope with these particular requirements, GAIA Converter proposes typical off-the-shelf modular
power architecture :
• Essential functions such as energetic spike protections and EMI filters according to EN50155, RIA12,
IEC571 are provided by standard "limitor" front-end products : LGDS family.
• For the heart of the power system, GAIA Converter offers a complete series of low profile,
cost-effective and high performance DC/DC modules that come in multiple combinations of input
voltages, output possibilities and power ratings : MGDI series.
Whatever your power system need, GAIA Converter has a modular architecture using standard
products to provide an instant solution to a wide range of applications from on-board
electronics up to protection, signaling or wayside equipments.

Industrial applications covered an extremely wide spectrum of applications from low requirements
in automation robotics, test equipment up to stringent constraints of transient and EMI in power plant
and electricity distribution systems. DC/DC modules have been intensively used since 20 years at the point
of load i.e on the board at the point of use, leaving the transients and EMI contraints away from the modules.
GAIA Converter has brought on the market modular solutions for those stringent requirements.
The traditional DC input voltages in industrial applications are ranging from 12 VDC, 24 VDC, 48 VDC and
125 VDC. EMI requirements are described in the EN55022 standard with 2 levels class A for Industrial environment
and class B for Domestic environment.
Susceptibility covering fast transient, repetitive surge, discharge, ... is of primarly importance
and are described in the EN61000 standards.
To cope with these particular requirements, GAIA Converter proposes typical off-the-shelf modular
power architecture :
• Essential functions such as susceptibility fast transient, according to EN61000-4-5 EMI class A according
to EN55022 are provided by standard “protection filter” : LGDS series .
• EMI to EN55022 class B is provided by standard “EMI filter” .
• For the heart of a the power system, GAIA Converter offers a complete series of low profile,
cost-effective and high performance modules that come in multiple combinations of input voltages,
output possibilities and power ratings : MGDI series.
